The idea is to choose the languages that will be most useful to most people.

Some of the factors I have been considering are the world's most widely spoken languages and most commonly used languages on the internet.

There are a few more than 12 there... we'll see.

I wanted to give a little bit of web love out to a great site that has loads and loads of links to online resources for learning world languages. It is called I Love Languages.

I just added a couple of resources.

The first is a unique site that lets you create your own flashcards called The Flashcard Exchange.

The other is a fabulous Italian language resource called The Italian Online Classroom.

Byki has stepped up their freeware. You can literally download and use their software to start learning the basics of over 74 languages in minutes without paying a cent. If you decide to continue learning past the basics, you can upgrade to the full version for a reasonable $49 USD.

Software can incorporate many elements into the learning process - audio and visual for example - which create an interactive, multi-media experience while learning.

Byki has great features as well, such as the ability to slow down the speakers voice when learning new words, instant flashcard tests, intuitive (and pretty) interface, and more.

Plus, it's not just for new learners. Their free software has plenty of vocabulary and info packed in for people who already have a grasp of the language they are learning.

So there is something for everyone at no price.
