Summary
This article serves to point out the available OpenOffice.org language extensions. Currently, extensions provide added functionality to the Free and Open Source alternative to MS Office suite called OpenOffice.org. The majority of these are free of charge.
Oddly enough, many of the language extensions do not appear in the language section, so please be sure to check out all available extensions for a broader list of languages and tools.
Currently these addons offer enhancements for the following languages: English, Esperanto, French, German, Hungarian, Italian, Polish, Romanian, Serbian, Spanish and Ukrainian.
These enhancements come in the form of grammar checkers, spell checkers, thesauri (thesauruses) and hyphernators. Specifically in regards to Serbian, Cyrillic to Latin and Latin to Cyrillic transliteration is enabled through the OOoTranslit extension.
The EuroOffice Language Tools Professional extension is worthy of special note in regards to Hungarian. (NB though, this is not a free extension.)
Another nifty extension called Accentuate allows you to use accented and special characters not supported out of the box, great for people dealing in languages with high amounts of diacritics.
More of these extensions are being contributed regularly, so there very well may be additional languages and functions available when you read this article.
