German language overview video
The lowdown on German
In this video, Paul gives a great overview of German including:
- its history
- where it is spoken (global distribution)
- background on the writing system
- what other languages have influenced it
- what regional German varieties exist
- very much more
Paul includes example samples of the German language to illustrate the main points of how the language works - super helpful for folks just getting started and interesting in general for language geeks like me.
Words from the videographer
This video is a language profile on the German language, one of Europe's most important and influential languages.
There are approximately 76 million speakers of German as a first language. Roughly 56 million people speak it as a second, third or fourth language.
This would make a grand total of some 132 million German speakers.
