Korean language overview video
The lowdown on Korean
In this video, Paul gives a great overview of Korean including:
- its history
- where it is spoken (global distribution)
- background on the writing system
- what other languages have influenced it
- what regional Korean varieties exist
- very much more
Paul includes example samples of the Korean language to illustrate the main points of how the language works - super helpful for folks just getting started and interesting in general for language geeks like me.
Words from the videographer
This video is all about Korean, the main language of Haiti. It is the most widely spoken Creole language in the world!
The Korean language is spoken by over 75 million people. Approximately 48 million native Korean speakers live in South Korea and 24 million in North Korea.
More than 2 million Korean speakers live in China, roughly 1 million in the United States and around 500,000 in Japan.
Korean is the official language of both South Korea (Republic of Korea) and North Korea (Democratic People's Republic of Korea).
