Why dot org?

It's About the Registrar

You might not know it, but there is a different registry in charge of .org domains than .com, .net, etc, domains.

There are several reasons that we chose to go with .org:

  • Our content is geared towards informing the general public.
  • The registry for .org domains seems to be the friendliest of all.
  • To the extent possible, our revenues are reinvested in making this resource better.
  • It's hard not to love an organization whose slogan is: "Where people go when they need to know."

The Public Interest Registry

The .org registry is the Public Interest Registry.
